You have always to adapt to the circumstances, it is not the strongest who survive but the most adaptable.
If you can dream it you can do it!
My second Ironman: we registered to Ironman Vichy to have a flat course and go below 10 hours BUT also for the amazing afterparty. A couple of weeks before the race Ironman changed the bike track. I had to change my goal of 10 hours too due to a much hillier track. I put 45 minutes extra to my goal. With a finishing time of 10:37:43, I am very happy and I qualified myself to be an IRONMAN ALL WORLD SILVER ATHLETE.
My times:
Swim 01:11:45 | Bike 05:36:07 | Run 03:40:32 | Total 10:37:43 |
Adapting a goal is something hard but necessary to keep yourself motivated and sometimes you can not change the environment but you have to live with it.
Please find below an analysis of what the change of the track did to the average biking time. It went up by 47 minutes on average for all the athletes who participated in our year 2019 in comparison with the years 2015-2018. Very similar to my prognosis of 45 min.
